Welcome back to our Alaska Cruise Series! In this episode, we’re in Skagway, one of Alaska’s most charming and historic ports — and this time, we came ready for adventure!
Having visited Skagway before, we’d already strolled its boardwalk-lined streets and soaked in its Gold Rush charm. So for this visit, we decided to kick things up a notch… quite literally.
Ziplining Through the Tongass National Forest
If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush with a view — ziplining through the Tongass National Forest is it!
We started our adventure with a rugged ride in an Unimog — a specialized off-road vehicle that climbed steep, twisting mountain roads surrounded by dense forest and rushing streams. Just getting to the top was an adventure in itself!
Once we arrived, it was time to suit up and take the leap — soaring through the treetops, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Alaska. Below us: waterfalls, streams, and endless shades of green. Around us: crisp mountain air and laughter echoing between the trees.
It was exhilarating, beautiful, and truly unforgettable — the perfect way to see a wilder side of Skagway.
Sweet Treats & Saloon Vibes
After an afternoon of zipping through the forest, we’d worked up quite an appetite! We headed back into town and made a beeline for one of Skagway’s most famous snacks — the infamous Dough Boy — a warm, sweet, doughy treat that’s basically Alaska’s version of comfort food heaven.
From there, we stopped in at the Red Onion Saloon, one of Skagway’s most iconic historic watering holes. With its quirky décor and fun atmosphere, it was the perfect place to relax and soak up a bit more local flavor before heading back to the ship.
