1. Cozumel, Mexico: Adventure Above and Below the Waves

Cozumel consistently ranks as a top Caribbean cruise destination, and for good reason. This Mexican island offers a fantastic blend of adventure and relaxation. Dive or snorkel in the world-renowned Mesoamerican Reef, explore ancient Mayan ruins at San Gervasio, or simply unwind on the pristine sands of Playa Palancar. For families, consider a visit to Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park, offering snorkeling, sea lion shows, and a tequila factory tour. Cozumel boasts a wide range of excursions to suit every interest and budget, making it a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

2. Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands: Stingray City and Seven Mile Beach Bliss

Grand Cayman is synonymous with luxury and relaxation, but it's also packed with exciting activities. The star attraction is undoubtedly Stingray City, where you can swim and interact with gentle stingrays in their natural habitat – a truly unforgettable experience. Afterwards, head to Seven Mile Beach, consistently ranked among the world's best beaches, for sunbathing, swimming, and watersports. For a cultural experience, visit Pedro St. James, a historic great house that played a significant role in Caymanian history.

3. St. Maarten/St. Martin: Two Nations, One Incredible Island

This unique island, divided between French St. Martin and Dutch St. Maarten, offers a fascinating blend of European cultures and Caribbean charm. On the Dutch side, Philipsburg offers duty-free shopping and vibrant nightlife. On the French side, Marigot boasts gourmet restaurants and a more laid-back atmosphere. Don't miss Maho Beach, famous for planes landing just feet overhead – a thrilling spectacle! With stunning beaches, delicious cuisine, and diverse activities, St. Maarten/St. Martin has something for everyone.

4. San Juan, Puerto Rico: History, Culture, and Culinary Delights

Immerse yourself in the rich history and vibrant culture of Old San Juan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the impressive fortresses of Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristobal, wander through cobblestone streets lined with colorful colonial buildings, and savor authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. For a taste of nature, venture outside the city to El Yunque National Forest, a lush rainforest teeming with waterfalls and wildlife. San Juan offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. I love this port for so many reasons! Not all cruise ports are completely walkable with a planned shore excursion. However, San Juan is one of those ports. No need to book anything, just get off the ship and begin your exploring of beautiful Old San Juan. From tucked away cafés to restaurants, shopping and so much more. Make sure to try the Mofongo, a local favorite. We felt safe and looked finding all the alleys and “nooks and crannies” of this historic area. This is a US territory so the US dollar is the currency which also makes it a great place to visit.

5. St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands: Breathtaking Views and Duty-Free Shopping

St. Thomas is known for its stunning panoramic views, duty-free shopping, and beautiful beaches. Take a scenic drive up to Mountain Top for breathtaking vistas of Magens Bay, consistently ranked among the world's most beautiful beaches. Explore the historic Charlotte Amalie, the capital city, and indulge in some retail therapy at the duty-free shops. For a relaxing beach day, head to Magens Bay or Trunk Bay, known for its crystal-clear waters and soft white sand. On my last visit, we snorkeled with large beautiful sea turtles just off the shore for a unforgettable experience.

6. Falmouth, Jamaica: History, Adventure, and Reggae Rhythms

Falmouth offers a glimpse into Jamaica's rich history and vibrant culture. Explore the historic town, known for its well-preserved Georgian architecture, and learn about its colonial past. For adventure seekers, consider a river rafting excursion on the Martha Brae River or a zip-lining adventure through the rainforest. Of course, no trip to Jamaica is complete without experiencing the reggae rhythms and delicious cuisine. Don’t miss out on a “port pattie” at the cruise port, when you are in Falmouth. Jamaica is known for their Jamaican meat pies and we ALWAYS make sure to have our share (ok, more than our share!).

7. Barbados: Beaches, Rum, and Bajan Hospitality

Barbados is famous for its stunning beaches, world-class rum, and warm Bajan hospitality. Relax on the powdery white sands of Crane Beach, known for its dramatic cliffs and turquoise waters. Take a tour of a rum distillery and sample the island's famous spirit. Explore Harrison's Cave, a breathtaking underground cave system, or swim with turtles in Carlisle Bay. With its beautiful beaches, delicious food, and friendly locals, Barbados is a true Caribbean paradise.

8. Roatan, Honduras: Underwater Paradise and Ecotourism Adventures

Roatan is a hidden gem in the Caribbean, offering incredible diving and snorkeling opportunities, as well as a range of ecotourism adventures. Explore the Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world, and discover a vibrant underwater world. Visit the AJ’s Monkeys and Sloths or Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth Hangout , both are nature reserves with monkeys, parrots, and other wildlife. For a taste of local culture, head to West End, a charming village with restaurants, bars, and shops. Roatan is a perfect destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
